Protect Software's online distribution system enables you to securely sell your software online. You have the option to use the Protect Software customizable web shop, your own custom shop or virtually any third pary shop.
Purchase options
With Protect Software you can offer your customers different ways to purchase your applications. Please see the list below for more information on the different scenarios:
| Buy before use |
|
With this option the customer has to purchase the software in advance to download and using it. The license is automatically stored on the customer's computer as part of the purchase process. |

| Try and buy |
|
With this option the customer can download and try the software in advance to the purchase. Typically the trial version has one or more limitations to require the customer to purchase the full version. During purchase, the full version the license is stored on his computer. Another download and installation is nor required. |

|
| Unlock |
|
With this option the customer can download the software in advance to the purchase but is unable to use it. During purchase, the license is stored on his computer. Another download and installation is nor required. |
|
|
| Forced registration |
|
With this option you can require a forced registration by which you can request custom information from the end user and unlock the software only after you have verified the information. This option can be combined with an original CD/DVD check. |

|
| Module management/unlocking |
|
With this option you can unlock certain modules of your software. This enables you to license different packages and you can define different rights for each module. |
|
|
| Rental period |
|
With this option you customers can rent your software or certain modules for a specified period, until a certain date is reached or for a specified numebr of usages. |
Of course it is possible o combine differnt purchase options, based on the capabilities of your web shop.
Trial options
If you want to offer a demo/trial version of your software to the end user, you can use Protect Software to implement the limitations for this version, such as:
| Time limitation |

With this limitation the user can use the program only for a specified days starting from the first use of the software. |

| Usage time limitation |
|
With this limitation the user can use the program only for a specified usage days starting from the first use of the software. A day is only counted as usage day if the trial program was used at least once during the day. |

|
| Program starts limitation |
|
With this limitation the user can use the program only for a specified number of times. Every start of the program counts as one use. |
|
|
| Runtime limitation |
|
With this limitation the user can use the program only for a specified runtime. Every time the program is run the runtimes are added up and verified with the allowed total running time. Once the maximum runtime is used, a warning message is displayed and the program terminated.

Webshop options
With Protect Software you are not limited to a certain web shop but you can use any combination of the customizable Protect Software web shop with integrated payment gateway and content delivery network, your own custom shop or virtually any third party web shop.
