To apply the Protect Software recordable media protection for software or PDF files you first need to set up a free account with Protect Software. Once you have done this, you need to follow the steps below to secure your software:
1. Use the web interface to create a new Project (one time)
Every protected software or PDF file is linked to a Project. This Project links the software and produced disc together and optionally also links from demo/trial version to the web shop where users can purchase the full software.
The Project needs to be created only once even if you want to protect multiple modules of your software and go through multiple iterations
2. Protect the executables, DLLs or PDF files of your choice
To protect the executables, DLLs or PDF files of your choice you can use our software protection web site to protect your file with your settings and you will receive an automatically modified executable within seconds.
3. Create master DVD
After you have protected your executable, DLL or PDF file you can create a DVD image. Once you have the master DVD image you can run it through the Protect Software DiscProtector to create a protected image.
4. Perform Quality Assurance and make sure everything works as supposed
Burn the protected image to DVD and make sure your software works as planned. The protected software will show an information screen that this is a Quality Assurance version that is not allowed for resale.
5. Purchase one or more burn licenses
If you are satisfied with the master DVD you need to order as many burn licenses as you want to produce discs. The minimum order quality is 10 burn licenses. If you order larger batches you get rebates. For more information on the pricing see our shop.
6. Burn the final DVDs
When you have finalized you QA and purchased the burn licenses you need you can start to burn the final protected DVDs. You can use any burning program and DVD recorder or duplication device but you need to make sure the ProtectBURN Software is installed on the machine you use for burning.
Wrapper
The Protect Software copy protection is implemented in your executable, DLL or PDF files by the use of a wrapper. This means you don’t need to have access to the source code of the executable to protect it. The Protect Software wrapper automatically wraps you security layer around your software and inserts active, polymorphic components, without changing the runtime behavior of your program.
